Illamasqua

Hey there all,

Today I got to play with some items from Illamasqua.  (‘Illusion’ & ‘Masquerade’). It’s a relatively new British highend makeup brand that was set up back in 2008.

image

These are the 3 products I got to try out. 1) Hydra Veil Rehydrating Gel, Rich Liquid Foundation, 2) Skin Base Lift, 3) Skin Base Lift Brightening Concealer.

The rehydrating gel is a primer, retailing for £30 (30mls), it has a fresh scent & feels lovely on the skin, I really loved the wee pot it comes in & for an added bit of twee there’s a teeny tiny spoon on top to help you judge how much to use.

image

Next up was the foundation, also £30 (30mls), I used the tiniest amount which went along way.  I thought the packaging looked cheap, for the amount you’re paying I think they could have pimped the bottle up a bit.
Finally the concealer, which costs £17 (2.5g) to be honest I didn’t see anything special with it to warrant the price tag.

image

Would I buy this? No!
Innitially I loved it, it gave great coverage & I really liked the shade.  But after 4 hours this was my face, my skin felt greasy & shiny.  It had come off my chin & parts of my nose, then was clumpy in other parts as you can see.  A very disappointing outcome for the price.

Have you tried Illamasqua?  Have you had a better experience?

Thanks for reading.

Eyeshadow + Lipbalm = Lipgloss

Hey there,

Have you any eyeshadows that you’d love to have in the same colour lippy?  Well why don’t we just make some ourselves? It takes 2 minutes & there are as many colour options as we have eyeshadows.

image

image

We’ll need a clear lipbalm, a spoon & a lip brush to mix it altogether.

image

image

If you’ve made extra then with your brush just paint it on the inside of a vaseline lid or something similar.
We all have an eyeshadow pallette with some bright or loud colours that we wouldn’t necessarily wear on our eyes so why not get use out of them this way, a neutral eye & bold (homemade) lips!

Is this something you’d try out?

Thanks for calling by.

Rimmel Revelations

HellO everyone!

Today I’m on cloud 9!  And you’ll probably laugh at me when you realise why, or pity me that what I’m about to tell you would make me so happy.

Let us begin . . .
Last week I was over on http://confettiandcurves.wordpress.com/ which is one of my most favourite blogs & seen that Karen had reviewed Rimmel Lasting Finish 25hr Foundation.

I’m beyond sceptical when it comes to drugstore type foundations, having tried X amount of them over the years.  After an hour or two the makeup would disappear from my Tzone, nostrils & chin leaving a greasy type residue.
I’d end up having to reapply 2 or sometimes 3 times through the day.
Naturally this sent my stress levels souring, if I noticed it then surely others did too.
NOT what you want in a foundation, in fact the complete opposite of what it’s meant to do.  It made me feel ick!  I couldn’t wait to get home & wash my face.  So ever since this drama I’ve avoided buying foundation in the chemist & stuck with high end ones.

image

I’ve read alot of good reviews on the Rimmel 25hr but was dubious incase the same thing happened, then after reading Karens review I bit the bullet & finally picked it up & for the bargain price of £4.98.  It comes in a glass bottle with a pump dispenser which I love.

image

Honestly I can’t say enough good things about it.  It claims to be a lasting finish, full coverage & skin perfecting.  It lasted the entire day & some, I put it on at 12pm & took it off at 1am.
As for full coverage, I didn’t retouch it once.  As you can see from my before photo I’m a bit of a freckle monster, I used 1 pump of it, which was even too much, it covered everything I wanted covered.  Finally it gets the thumbs up in the skin perfecting stakes too, I think my skin looked alot brighter afterward.
1 pump of foundation equaled a full day of wear tooing & froing about shops & town in the elements.

I’m a convert.  For me it’s most definately a dupe for the higher end ones that are out there.
Would I buy it again? Yes!
It’s a no brainer, with the usual retail price of £7.99 I’m saving ten pounds compared to what I pay for my current one but still getting the same coverage.

Have you used this foundation before? What did you think?

Thanks a million for reading.

Fancy French Tips

HellO there everyone,

We’re talking French manicures today.  I think they’re beautiful, they make a regular old hand look so elegant, especially when you add some nice rings & a bracelet.

image

Now I may love a French manicure but I’m not all that steady when it comes to painting those white tips on with a brush.  I always find there’s too much polish on the brush, leaving my nail clumpy & taking an age to dry.  Then if I make a mistake which I so often do I’ve to remove all the polish & start the whole thing again, time consuming much?!

image

image

Nailene White French Tip Pen is a handy way around this problem.  You simply draw along the end of your nail with its precision edge, it drys very quickly so you can paint the top coat of clear polish over it immediately.
From start to finish this took 10 minutes.
As a rule I’d always use polish as opposed doing a French manicure purely because it’s always seemed less time consuming, but honestly after trying this pen I think my fringers will be going French more often.  The pen & polish came together in a set & cost £5.25 from Boots.

Would you switch from brush to pen?

Thanks so much for stopping by.

Perfect Eyeliner In A Flash

HellO there lovelies,

Today I’m talking about that never ending struggle we all face, liquid eyeliner. Why is it one always turns out ok then sure enough when it comes to doing the other eye it looks as though a toddler drew on you while you were asleep.
I’d pretty much given up hope of ever doing a decent lined eye until I started using something that lives in every single one of our homes. Cellotape.

image

Here’s what I’m using. MUA Gel Eyeliner (£3). Like it says on the bottle it’s a gel, so careful with how much you add when dipping the brush in as it can get messy quickly.

image

Cut maybe an inch of tape off, stick it down on a towel & peel off, do this a few times to dull the stickiness.  Now line it up just under the corner of your eye & pat it down.  Run the gelled brush along the tape then up your lash line, make it as thin or thick as your wee heart desires.  Let it dry for a minute then peel it off slowly.
Et voila!  A perfectly straight line!

image

Now that the base is down it’s time to have a bit of fun.  I’m still in love with my MakeUp Base pallette so I brought out the rainbow eyes again.

image

As you can see from both angles the line is perfect.  It really is impossible to mess this up, believe me! If I can do this anyone can.
Again the only things to remember are to make sure you’ve lined the tape up under the corner of your eye.  Take your time applying the gel & also go slow when taking the tape off.
You’ll have the perfect foundation that’ll really make your eyeshadow pop.
You could do this with glittered or coloured liner also, there are so many options with this one.
Give it a whirl & have fun with it.

Thanks so much so stopping by.

* Who inspires your style?
No one to be honest, I just like what I like.

* What’s your favourite piece of clothing/accessories?(or both)
That hairband! Great for the dry shampoo days! Also my trusty leather jacket and scarf.  I wear them with everything.

* Where do you like to shop?
Ebay, primark, sales! Last of the big spenderssss!

* If money wasn’t an option & you could buy any beauty item tomorrow what would it be & why?
New boobs & a sunbed! haha no, a good concealer and highlighter. Maybe something to plump up my skin. Late nights, early mornings and little sleep make for many lines and dark circles!

* Do you have a certain style & how would you describe it?
I wish… I’m still tryin to find my style!  I usually either think I’m dressed too young for my age or too mumsy!

* What’s your daily beauty & makeup routine?
Soap and water and simple rich moisturiser! Then maxfactor ageless elixir 2 n 1 foundation and serum (warm  almond) cream blush, highlighter,NO7 waterproof mascara and a barley there lip gloss….this is just for the natural look haha!

* What’s your favourite beauty product/products ?
John Frieda Go blonder spray conditioner. I use the shampoo and conditioner too but the spray just lifts your colour a little with each use and looks very natural!

* Do you have any beauty tips or tricks? If ur rushing, just your eyes.
A wee bit of colour and mascara is the difference between looking normal and looking like you have no eyes

* What’s been your worst fashion, beauty or hair disaster? (Or all)
A large black pagan wooden Cross round my neck, a black leather bomber jacket from the 80s & green hair.
Yep. All at the same time 😳

* Name a blog you read that you’d recommend to us?
Totally off topic but “Katie180” she’s a Australian nutritionalist AP (attachment parenting) mum with a great sense of humour. Love her.

My Beef with Beauty Blenders

Hello there,

I’m chatting about Beauty Blenders today & you may want to exit out of this page now if you’re a fan because this will not be a good review guys & gals.

image

Here it is in all it’s pink squidgy glory.  I bought 2 of them on Ebay for £1.50. Whereas in the shops they can retail for up to £20!!
Yes indeedy folks, TWENTY POUNDS for a bit of sponge no bigger than an egg.

image

Once you’ve moisturised & primed your pretty wee face you’re ready to go.  Fill a cup up with some warm water & pop the blender in & get it nice & wet.

image

Then put your usual amount of foundation on the blender & dab it around your face.  I really tried to like it, I swear I did but at the end of the day I’m just a die hard brush gal.  I like the dexterity of a brush that this sponge just did not provide me.

I found with the blender you’d be there the best part of a day trying to get it all even & in the end I still used my brush to buff it in properly where it was patchy.  And quite frankly ain’t nobody got time for that!

Are you a fan of Beauty Blenders?
Am I doing something wrong perhaps? All advice & tips are very much welcome.

Thanks so much for stopping by.
