It’s Christmas Cookie Time!

Hello there,

With the 1st of December having been and gone and with a sea of advent calenders now minus one window. There’s no denying it any longer, It’s Christmas folks!
And sure what screams Christmas more than home baked biscuits. Plus your kitchen will smell absolutely delicious afterward. Trust me!

Here’s a list of everything you’re going to need to get baking those festive bickies.

~  250g of softened butter.
~  140g caster sugar.
~  1 egg yolk.
~  2 tsp vanilla extract.
~  300g plain flour.
~  50g porridge oats.
~  1 tsp ground nutmeg.
~  1 tsp ground cinnamon.

▪ First up we’re  going to mix both the butter & sugar together with a wooden spoon, you could also kneed it with your fingers, just whatever you find easier.

▪ Next add in your egg yolk and vanilla extract and mix mix mix until your wee arms can mix no more.

▪ When that’s done add in your flour, porridge oats, nutmeg and cinnamon and yep, you guessed it get mixing again until it’s all combined.

▪ Throw your wooden spoon into the sink, push up your sleeves and get your hands into the mixture and start kneeding.

▪  Sprinkle your worktop with some flour, roll out your mix and start cutting your biscuits, then onto a baking tray lined with greaseproof paper they go.

▪ Have your oven preheated to 180 degrees whilst baking then once they go in drop it to down to160 degrees for 12-15minutes.

When they’re baked through let them cool on a wire rack for 20 minutes. I sprinkled mine with some edible glitter for the added fairy effects.

Do let me know if you try these out and remember you can add whatever flavourings you like.
I love vanilla, nutmeg & cinnamon so that’s why I included these in recipe. But feel free to play around.

Aunt an Uncle Day: Sunday 26th July

Hey there,

As you can see in the wee toolbar thingy I’ve a new tab titled “Kooky Kalender”.  Basically throughout the year I’ll be uploading this section each month with all the holidays we rarely hear about. Some are pretty unbelievable & some you’ll definitely have a giggle at.

it’s generally accepted that it’s kids day everyday. Then there’s Mother & Fathers day & even Granny & Grandad day. But what about the aunties & uncles out there?! The ones that send us birthday & Christmas cards every year, or who slip a five or ten pound note into our hands when our folks aren’t looking.  The ones that babysit without question or fee.  When’s their special day?  Well I’m very glad you asked because It’s actually this Sunday guys & gals.

aunt and uncle

Last week I went in search of a card to send my favourite pair & was gutted to see there weren’t any available to mark this auspicious day, well, not to be outdone by Hallmarks loss I made do with one that was blank on the inside & I doodled the bejaysus out of it with my own font & sent it on its way.

What would make for a good present?

  • We don’t have to break the bank, I think general acknowledgement of all that they do for us is key & a card is perfect for this.  Simple & to the point.
  • Where do they like to eat out? A gift voucher with any amount toward a meal will most definitely be appreciated.
  • What about flowers? Pretty much all florists will have an online shop making it super simple, you don’t even need to leave your house. Remember, flowers aren’t just for the ladies.  A houseproud uncle will appreciate a lovely bouquet brightening up the front room just as much as auntie will.
  • Make them dinner & invite them around. A complete night off for them & their kitchen.
  • Bake a cake or muffins & deliver them round in a nice basket.

If cash is a bit tight then go handmade, it’ll always be a winner. Print off a few photo with some meaning to them & decorate a frame with some beads or buttons.  It’ll still be there long after a voucher for dinner has been eaten.  Or even send a text or make a phone call & let them know you appreciate them.  I guarantee you will make their day.

Let me know what idea you go for on Sunday!

Wardrobe Full Of Clothes & Nothing To Wear

Hello there,

I’m so sorry for neglecting you all lately.  But I’ve become super focused on trying to shift weight I’ve put on over the past 10 months or so & there just aren’t enough hours in the day sometimes to fit everything in that needs done so alas my wee blog got put on the back burner. *Slaps self on wrist*

Somehow it doesn’t seem fair that it takes seconds to eat a Mars bar but yet an hour to walk it off again.  I’ve gone from a size 12/14 to a 16 over the past year.  But this past month with running, gyming & eating proper sized portions I’m back to a 14 & I’ll get to a 12, but it’ll take time & hard work.

I got to thinking about this time last year when I was a lot slimmer & tried to remember how the weight creeped back on . . . “I’ll skip todays run/walk . . I’ll just go to the gym tomorrow instead . . Sure I lost X amount of weight already I’ve done the hard work I’ll be grand . . Ok just a few extra roast potatoes & some more chicken & that’s me . . . I’ll have a pizza tonight & start fresh on Monday” . .  Etc . .

So yeah, really not that hard to see how I jumped up to a 16 again is it!?  It got me thinking  about ways to keep the weight off this time.  I was just under 2 stone lighter a year ago.
So why did it take till now before I did something?  Well I looked in my wardrobe tonight & I’ve honestly more clothes than I could ever wear, but do I wear half of them? No!!  They are in an array of sizes & therein lays my problem!!

If I put on a few pounds & my jeans become too tight then it doesn’t matter because I can always just wear the larger ones.  But then I end up wearing the larger ones all the time until one day the larger ones become too tight.

So what do I do!?  You may think it drastic but I’ve decided to bin /Ebay or charity shop EVERYTHING that’s a size 16 or a loose 14.  I do NOT want or need them about me coaxing me to be lazy on the days I need to be motivated because I know they’ll be there if I want to have a few Chinese takeaways one week & sure I can always wear them if I size up again.
But that’s the thing, I don’t want to size up again, if the clothes I’m wearing start to feel tighter then you can bet I’ll be out running or cutting back on my portions to rectify that & NOT just buy larger clothes as the answer.

If you’ve any tipe or advice of your own personal journeys with exercise, fittness & weightloss then message below.  I’d really love to hear back from you.

As always, thanks SO much for stopping by for a read, it really does mean so much.

Sending you all

*LoVe & huGs*
